About the Area
Unspoilt and with a gentle year-round climate, South Devon has much to offer visitors.
Miles of spectacular South West Coast Path between Dartmouth and Salcombe make breathtaking walking.
Along the way stop off in Torcross for a cream tea at the Sea Breeze Sports & Café or a plate of the finest fish and chips at the Start Bay Inn; take a guided tour of Start Point Lighthouse; or visit the National Trust Overbecks museum and garden at Salcombe.
South Hams boasts many of the finest and most unspoilt beaches in the country. The ENCAMS Seaside Beach award for 2006 includes Bantham, Torcross, and Blackpool Sands amongst the winners.
Some local beaches such as Torcross, Blackpool Sands and South Milton Sands have cafes or pubs, toilets and watersports equipment for hire. Strete Gate, Slapton Sands, Torcross and Beesands are all dog-friendly, and the sandy beaches and rock pools at Bantham, Thurlestone and Mill Bay are perfect for a family day at the coast.
The thriving and bustling market towns of Kingsbridge and Totnes are well worth a visit, and the coastal and estuary towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe with their colourful shops and gentle waterways make for a relaxing day by the water.
There are many pubs, cafes and restaurants providing local food and drink in the area, too numerous to mention here, but links to both the Kingsbridge and Dartmouth Information Centres at the bottom of this page will give many more details of this and other activities in the area. |
