for implementing environmental practices
In January 2005 Dittiscombe Holiday Cottages were awarded the gold level
within the Green Tourism Business Scheme: 'There are many excellent examples
of wildlife projects on the site. Special mention should also be made
of the emphasis placed on raising the guests awareness of environmental
issues eg recyling, resulting in enhanced visitor experience.'
Through this scheme we are committing our business to good environmental
practices and place special emphasis on conservation and education, water
and energy-saving measures, recycling, using 'green' cleaning materials,
supporting local initiatives and craftsmen, customer experience and eco-marketing.
Our visitors are encouraged to visit places close to here, to use local
transport, to leave their car and walk our 'green lanes', to buy and consume
locally produced food and drink, and to help monitor the wildlife in the
valley by adding their observations to the nature diary.
